Choose This Day (Part 3)

The Lord is still a jealous God!  Are we stronger than he?  Are we eating and gathering on the wrong days and during the wrong seasons?  Have you ever considered that the Holidays that you observe are actually the practice of Idolatry?  They were originally pagan holidays.  Why would we justify honoring pagan gods while denouncing the Lords holidays that he has given?  Did God really say that we can participate in pagan forms of worship now, because of Jesus?

  • Joshua 24:14-15  Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River, and in Egypt; and serve you the LORD.  (15)  And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Whose Holidays are you practicing?

There are Holidays that God has sanctified for us to remember and which all point to Jesus.  God gave these Holidays that He appointed and designed. The question that you need to ask of yourself is: whose side am I on?  Are you on the side of Yahweh and His children, the Israel of God, which include Moses, Josiah, Ezra and Nehemiah and practicing the the Feasts that they embraced? Or you on the side of the nations and their practices?

  • Leviticus 23:4 These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which you shall proclaim in their appointed times.
  • Exodus 23:14 Three times you shall keep a feast unto me in the year.
  • 2 chronicles 16-19  So all the service of the Lord was prepared the same day, to keep the Passover and to offer burnt offerings on the altar of the Lord, according to the command of King Josiah. 17 And the children of Israel who were present kept the Passover at that time, and the Feast of Unleavened Bread for seven days. 18 There had been no Passover kept in Israel like that since the days of Samuel the prophet…
  • Ezra 6:21-22 Then the children of Israel who had returned from the captivity ate together with all who had separated themselves from the filth of the nations of the land in order to seek the Lord God of Israel.  22 And they kept the Feast of Unleavened Bread seven days with joy; for the Lord made them joyful…
  • Zechariah 14:21-22 Then the children of Israel who had returned from the captivity ate together with all who had separated themselves from the filth of the nations of the land in order to seek the Lord God of Israel. 22 And they kept the Feast of Unleavened Bread seven days with joy; for the Lord made them joyful…

Or are you on the side of The Deceiver and His children, Israel in the Flesh, Solomon, Jeroboam, Ahab and Jezebel? He gave them feasts to celebrate? Or with those who opposed these men of God?

  • Exodus 32:1 ,4-5 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, who shall go before us… 4 And he received them from their hand, and fashioned it with an engraving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. 5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, Tomorrow is a feast to the LORD.
  • 1 Kings 11:4-10  For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.  (5)  For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.  (6)  And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.  (7)  Then did Solomon build a high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.  (8)  And likewise did he for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed unto their gods.  (9)  And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, who had appeared unto him twice,  (10)  And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded.
  • 1 Kings 12:28 Therefore the king asked advice, made two calves of gold, and said to the people, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up from the land of Egypt! 29 And he set up one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan. 30 Now this thing became a sin, for the people went to worship before the one as far as Dan. 31 He made shrines on the high places, and made priests from every class of people, who were not of the sons of Levi.
  • 1 Kings 12:32 Jeroboam ordained a feast on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the feast that was in Judah, and offered sacrifices on the altar.
  • 1 Kings 18:18-21  And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but you, and your father’s house, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and you have followed Baalim.  (19)  Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the idol poles four hundred, who eat at Jezebel’s table.  (20)  So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.  (21)  And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long do you halt between two opinions? if the LORD is God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

Are you choosing to serve The LORD by observing the days prophetic of Jesus or the days of the pagan gods?  How long does the church halt between two opinions?

Whose Sabbath do you seek to honor?

Do you honor the LORD and practice a day of rest called the Lords Sabbath, which Jesus recognized and kept perfectly according to the written Scriptures? The Sabbath that Jesus is “Lord of” and which he made for man to enjoy and honor.

  • Matthew 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
  • Leviticus 23:3 Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.
  • Genesis 2:11 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work …
  • Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
  • Exodus 20:8-9 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God.
  • Acts 16:13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a riverside, where prayer was accustomed to be made; and we sat down, and spoke unto the women who met there.
  • Isaiah 56:6 Also the sons of the foreigner Who join themselves to the LORD, to serve Him, And to love the name of the LORD, to be His servants. Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, And holds fast My covenant…

Or do you honor the sun god Mithra and keep his Sabbath day of the sun or keep no day of rest and choose to work for 7 days?  Did Jesus or Paul really change the Sabbath to a new day other than the one that God has himself kept and ordained?

  • Matthew 15:7-8 Thu you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. 7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: 8 “These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. and in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”
  • “The retention of the old pagan name of Dies Solis, for Sunday is, in a great measure, owing to the union of pagan and Christian sentiment with which the first day of the week was recommended by Constantine to his subjects – pagan and Christian alike – as the ‘venerable’ day of the sun.”"Arthur P. Stanley, History of the Eastern Church, p. 184
  • The Roman Catholic Church changed the observance of the Sabbath to Sunday by right of the divine, infallible authority given to her by her founder, Jesus Christ. The Protestant claiming the Bible to be the only guide of faith, has no warrant for observing Sunday. In this matter the Seventh-day Adventist is the only consistent Protestant.” The Catholic Universe Bulletin, August 14, 1942, p. 4.
  • “Tradition, not Scripture, is the rock on which the church of Jesus Christ is built.” Adrien Nampon, Catholic Doctrine as Defined by the Council of Trent, p. 157
  • “Sunday (Deis Solis), the day of the sun, was considered by Mithraist a sacred day of rest.” http://www.toolong.com/pages/sol_invictus.htm.

Whose spring feasts do you recognize?

Do you recognize the Passover as a memorial of Jesus? Or a Good Friday that makes no logical sense?

  • Exodus 12:11b-12 It is the LORD’s Passover. 12 “For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will judgment: I am the LORD.”
  • 1 Corinthians 15:7b For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.
  • John 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was a high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
  • Leviticus 23:4-5 These are the feasts of the LORD, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at their appointed times. 5 On the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight is the LORD’s Passover.
  • Revelation 5:12 saying with a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!”
  • John 1 :25 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”

Do you remember the Firstfruits of Christ resurrection? Or the day of the fertility goddess Ashtoroth (Easter)?

  • Leviticus 23:9-11 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 10 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: “When you come into the land which I give to you, and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest. 11 He shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted on your behalf; on the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it.
  • 1 Corinthians 15:20-23 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.

Do you remember the 7 day memorial to Jesus that His Father gave us?

  • Exodus 13:7 Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days. And no leavened bread shall be seen among you, nor shall leaven be seen among you in all your quarters.
  • Luke 22:7 Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be killed.
  • John 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was a high day,)…
  • Exodus 12:39 And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they had brought out of Egypt; for it was not leavened, because they were driven out of Egypt and could not wait, nor had they prepared provisions for themselves.
  • Corinthians 4:7 Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. 8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
  • Acts 20:6 But we sailed away from Philippi after the Days of Unleavened Bread, and in five days joined them at Troas, where we stayed seven days.

Or do you choose to honor the pagan goddess Ishtar during her 7 day fertility memorial?

  • “In ancient Anglo-Saxon myth, Ostara is the personification of the rising sun. In that capacity she is associated with the spring and is considered to be a fertility goddess. She is the friend of all children, and to amuse them, she changed her pet bird into a rabbit. This rabbit brought forth brightly colored eggs, which the goddess gave to children as gifts. From her name and rites the festival of Easter is derived.  (Ency Mythica, article: Ostara) http://www.truthontheweb.org/easter.htm
  • The English term Easter, relates to Estre, a Teutonic goddess of the rising light of day and spring, which deity, however, is otherwise unknown. Anglo-Saxon, ester, estron; Old High German, stra, strara, strarn; German, Ostern. April was called easter-monadh. The plural estron is used, because the Teutonic feast lasts seven days. The Catholic Encyclopedia Online
  • In Babylonia the goddess of spring was called Ishtar. She was identified with the planet Venus, which, because it rises before the Sun or sets after it appears to love the light [this means Venus loves the sun-god] In Phoenecia, she became Astarte; in Greece, Eostre [related to the Greek word Eos: dawn, and Ostara or east, which is the direction of dawn (Englehart, p. 4).

Do you remember the feast of Weeks (Pentecost) and the coming of the Holy Spirit, as written? Or are you more interested in the Memorial day celebration in America or other remembrances of the dead that come at this time of year?

  • Leviticus 23:15-16,21 And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths shall be completed. 16 Count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall offer a new grain offering to the LORD… 21b You shall do no customary work on it. It shall be a statute forever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.

Gods explains the way that He desires us to honor Him.  Do we obey Him or someone else? It is a choice that we make each time we practice a holiday.

  • Deuteronomy 4:2 You shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall you take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
  • John  4:23-24 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

Gods view of the pagans ways that dishonor Him are still for us today.  Do we choose to please Him or some other man or group of people?

  • Deuteronomy 12:2-4 & 31 2 You shall utterly destroy all the places where the nations which you shall dispossess served their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree. 3 And you shall destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and burn their wooden images with fire; you shall cut down the carved images of their gods and destroy their names from that place. 4 You shall not worship the Lord your God with such  You shall not do so unto the LORD your God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hates, have they done unto their gods…

Neither be you idolaters, as were some of them… Choose this day whom you will serve… We still have the same choice today.

One Response to “Choose This Day (Part 3)”

  1. Banner Kidd | January 28, 2012 at 5:18 pm #

Good look brother. I was noticing Hebrews Chapters 3 and 4 this morning. In Hebrews 3:15, “while it is said, ‘Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as when they provoked me,” speaking of those who were disobedient in the wilderness journey, and died because of their rebellion. Verses 18 and 19 says that those disobedient ones would not enter into His rest. They were disobedient (Verse 19) because they didn’t believe what Yahweh said.

Then, in Chapter 4, of Hebrews, we are warned not to be rebellious and disobedient as those in the wilderness were, echoing Paul’s warning in 1st Corinthians 10. The warning in Hebrews 4:1, is of not entering into the rest of Yahweh. He said, “Today, If you hear His Voice, do not harden your heart,” in Hebrews 3:15. And then continues the thought into talking about the rest of the LORD.

There is only one day of rest given by Yahweh, and that is His weekly Sabbath, and the annual Sabbaths of His other appointed times (Moedim/Feasts).

The writer of Hebrews says that we have heard the same gospel as they did – showing us the proper order of the giving of the gospel – but they didn’t mix what He said with faith (they didn’t believe what He said), therefore it was of no profit to them. It’s as Paul writes in Colossians 2, the commandments and doctrines of men are of no value.

What rest is the writer of Hebrews talking about, specifically, here? Hebrews 4:3–5 make it clear. It is the Sabbath day set apart from the foundation of the world, when our Creator finished His labor of creation, and rested on the Sabbath day. AGAIN, in Verse 7, we are reminded that Yahweh “fixes a certain day.”

We don’t see the Sabbath of the Creator abolished, set aside, changed, or left to us to define, here in Hebrews 4, as some falsely teach. We see quite the opposite.

Verse 9 says, “There remains therefore a Sabbath (seventh day, just as defined earlier in the chapter, in perfect unity with Torah and the Prophets) for the people of God.”

Verse 10; “For the one how has entered into His (Yahweh’s) rest has himself also rested from his works, as God (our Creator) did from His.” We know when and how He rested. In the beginning, after six days of creating (work), He rested. We are to rest as He did, on the day He set apart for rest, established from the beginning.

We are told that the believer’s rest is in Yeshua (Jesus). But if we are to rest as the Creator did, how can that be? Is the Creator, who rested on the Sabbath Day, now resting in Yeshua?

Today (Sabbath) is the day, HIS DAY. Choose this Day, whom you will serve. The men of this world, worshiping a god of their own making, inspired by the liar to add to and subtract from what god said, lead men and women who profess to know the Creator to choose a day of their own. But Today, on His Day, we are to hear His Voice.

The revelation of the Messiah to His creation is through the observance and keeping of His appointments (Sabbaths) beginning with the weekly reminder of the seventh day Sabbath.

The weekly cycle of six days, culminating in the Sabbath Day, has stood the test of time and man’s feeble attempts to change the calendar. Even though the calendar has changed as the months and number of days cycle through the year, the weekly cycle has remained constant in all societies around the globe.

But the ultimate attempt to change times and seasons has been done by those who profess to know Him. And it is the changing of His Appointed Times (Feasts/Moedim), including and foremost the weekly Sabbath, by those in Judaism and in traditional Christianity that is the problem.

May those who have ears to hear, hear the Voice of Yahweh.
